1895 Fashion Show

The 1895 Fashion Show is thus named to commemorate the year 19 Hopi men were sent to Alcatraz prison because of their refusal to allow their children to be taken to government schools. Their imprisonment sparked the eventual split of the village of Oraivi and a split between the "traditionals" and "progressives". This split led to the establishment of the village of Hotevilla, from which my lineage is, and where the roots of my design philosophy are based. Had these men not refused participation in government schooling, many of the beliefs my family passed on to me would have been lost, forever surrendered to a foreign way of life. Through the 1895 Fashion Show we can provide another way to transmit and preserve fundamental beliefs and practices. Coming January 2027!
